Six Reasons to Quitting Smoking Habit
Most smokers suffer in silence, but the truth is that smoking has devastating effects. It can start a leisure activity, but over time, it becomes additive such that you cannot do without it and you become vulnerable to chronic diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, and stroke. If you have been a smoker for a considerable period then at least you know some of its effects such as shortness of breath, dry skin, and thinning hair.
Unfortunately, many smokers are not willing to quit the habit despite being aware of the health risks associated with smoking. Apart from the health risks of smoking which many people are conversant with, here are reasons as to why you should quit smoking in totality.
Save money – Smoking is an expensive habit. It is highly addictive, and you will spend a lot of money purchasing cigarettes, and they are expensive because currently, the government is discouraging it by increasing its taxes. You will end up broke after purchasing several packets of cigarette, and you will not have money to spend on other essential needs. When you quit smoking, you will save lots of money that you can spend on other necessary activities to improve your standard of living.
Stop jeopardizing other people’s lives – The smoke from your cigar spread to other people around you. When they inhale the smoke, they will be at a risk of having health problems because the smoke has carcinogen which is the toxic compound in cigarettes. You can opt for vaping which is a safe method of smoking because it does not contain harmful compounds that cigarette has.
Stabilize your senses – Most smokers have difficulties in recognizing smell and taste because smoking has damaged the senses. Smoking affects your senses of smell which is also directly related to your taste sensation and after a short while, you may lose both senses. Quitting smoking and replacing it with nicotine replacement therapy is the best way to regain your senses.
Prevent accelerated aging – It is no surprise that you might mistake a young person to be an old person if he or she smokes. Smoking affects the skin tissues thus it is easy to develop wrinkles, dry skin, and leathery skin. Most research has shown that smoking speeds the aging process thus one is likely to appear older than his age.
Stop getting coughs and colds – It is quite usual to have coughs and colds occasionally, but the frequency of having those increases if you smoke. Smoking weakens the body’s immune system, and this makes a smoker’s body highly susceptible to bacterial and viral infections which are responsible for colds and coughs. The immune system regains its strength gradually after you quit smoking.
Stamina to exercise – Smokers cannot endure long periods of exercises because they easily run short of breath. Further, smoking weakens the functioning of the heart which is an important organ in the body. If you do not stop smoking, you will have difficulties in performing simple tasks such as climbing stair cases. You will gradually regain your strength after quitting the habit.
